Weighbridge House - Project of the Year Award 2016

The Jersey Construction Council (JeCC) held their annual awards on Saturday 15 October 2016 and Comprop were delighted that Weighbridge House was awarded the Project of the Year award over £3 million pounds.  The project had proved challenging from the outset due to the retention of the existing facade of the former Southampton Hotel,  in line with its heritage listing.  The building also provided a distinctive landmark in historical photography following the Liberation of Jersey at the end of World War II.

There were many technical challenges that needed to be overcome during the development including the retention of the exisiting facade.  Just one example of the difficulty in maintaining the facade was the need to excavate a three metre deep basement whilst retaining  the facade and inserting piled foundations to both the new and old buildings.

We paid particular attention to integrating the retained facade into the new building which we feel ensured that the whole building is both aesthetically correct as well as functional.

The Project Team were all extremely proud that their combined efforts throughout the project had been acknowledged by a panel of judges representing the Construction Industry.
